On 6 July 2019, MLL China Desk’s Livia Andermatt was a speaker at the 11th China Trademark Festival, which was held this year in Yinchuan, Ningxia, China. The theme of the conference was „Strengthening Trademarks & Brands Protection and Building a New Path of Innovation and Development“, and it was organized by the China Trademark Association.
Livia spoke among judges of the Beijing High Court and Beijing IP Court in the seminar on „Regulatory Mechanism against Abuse of Trademark Rights in China and Legitimate Owners‘ Coping Strategy“. In her presentation on „Bad Faith Trademark Applications: The European Approach“ she took a comparative perspective and analyzed the differences between the Chinese and European regulatory systems that contribute to the lesser number of malicious trademark filings in Europe.
The conference was attended by over 2’000 judges, government officials, lawyers and businessmen from all across China, working in the field of trademark registration and protection. The senior associate in the firm’s top tier IP team delivered a presentation about the European Approach to bad faith trademark applications.
